Refresher in Personal Survival Techniques (R-PST) is a mandatory course conducted in accordance with the requirements of the Directorate General of Shipping, aligned with International Maritime Organization standards and the STCW Convention.

 

The course is designed to refresh and update essential survival knowledge and practical skills of seafarers as required under STCW revalidation norms.

 

Training includes theoretical revision and practical drills, focusing on abandon ship procedures, use of lifejackets, immersion suits, life rafts, and survival techniques in water.

 

Special emphasis is placed on hands-on training, including entering water safely, righting an inverted liferaft, boarding survival craft, and group survival techniques.

 

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must hold a valid BST / Personal Survival Technique (PST) certificate.
  • Valid passport.
  • Must be medically fit as per Directorate General of Shipping approved doctor.

 

 

Competency Outcome – Refresher in Personal Survival Techniques (R-PST):

  • Demonstrate continued ability to survive at sea in emergency situations.
  • Wear and use lifejackets and immersion suits correctly.
  • Perform safe entry into water from height and while wearing survival gear.
  • Right an overturned liferaft and board survival craft safely.
  • Use liferaft equipment and survival aids effectively.
  • Apply group survival techniques such as huddling and chain formation.
  • Respond to abandon ship procedures in an organized and disciplined manner.
  • Manage exposure, hypothermia, and fatigue during survival situations.
  • Demonstrate ability to signal for distress and attract attention for rescue.
  • Ensure compliance with standards of Directorate General of Shipping and STCW Convention.
