Passenger Ship Familrisation

Passenger Ship Familiarization (PSF)  Course is a mandatory training programmed conducted as per the requirements of the Directorate General of Shipping in compliance with International Maritime Organization and the STCW Convention. The course is designed for seafarers serving on passenger ships to ensure they are familiar with specific safety procedures and responsibilities related to passenger safety.

The course provides essential knowledge of ship layout, safety equipment, and emergency procedures, with special emphasis on assisting passengers during emergencies. It includes training in crowd management, communication with passengers, and use of life-saving appliances.

Training focuses on developing the ability to guide and support passengers, maintain order during emergencies, and ensure effective evacuation when required. It also emphasizes human behavior in emergency situations and the importance of clear communication.

 

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Valid passport
  2. Must hold Basic Safety Training (BST) and STSDSD  certificate
  3. Must be medically fit as per Directorate General of Shipping approved doctor 

Competency Outcome – Passenger Ship Familiarization (PSF) Course:

  • Demonstrate familiarity with passenger ship layout, safety systems, and emergency equipment.
  • Assist passengers effectively during muster, embarkation, and emergency situations.
  • Communicate clearly with passengers, including providing safety instructions and guidance.
  • Contribute to safe movement and control of passengers during routine and emergency conditions.
  • Support implementation of emergency procedures, including evacuation and use of life-saving appliances.
  • Show awareness of human behavior in emergencies and manage passengers calmly and efficiently.
  • Comply with safety and operational procedures as per Directorate General of Shipping and STCW Convention requirements.
