Refresher Advanced Training in Fire Fighting (R-AFF) is a mandatory course conducted in accordance with the requirements of the Directorate General of Shipping, aligned with International Maritime Organization standards and the STCW Convention.

The course is designed to refresh and update the knowledge and practical skills of seafarers in advanced firefighting techniques as required for STCW revalidation.

Training includes theoretical revision and intensive practical drills, focusing on firefighting strategies, command and control, use of breathing apparatus (SCBA), and handling of firefighting equipment.

Special emphasis is placed on leadership, decision-making, team coordination, and emergency response, ensuring readiness to manage real fire situations onboard ships.

 

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must hold a valid  AFF (Advanced Training In Fire Fighting) certificate.
  • Valid passport.
  • Must be medically fit as per Directorate General of Shipping approved doctor. 

Competency Outcome – Refresher Advanced Training in Fire Fighting (R-AFF) :

  • Demonstrate continued ability to organize and lead firefighting operations onboard ships.
  • Apply updated firefighting techniques and strategies for various types of fires.
  • Effectively use SCBA, fire detection systems, and fixed firefighting installations.
  • Conduct search and rescue operations in smoke-filled and enclosed spaces.
  • Assess fire situations and take quick and appropriate decisions during emergencies.
  • Ensure proper communication, coordination, and safety of fire teams.
  • Implement fire prevention measures and risk assessment onboard.
  • Respond efficiently to realistic fire emergencies and drills.
  • Maintain compliance with standards of Directorate General of Shipping, International Maritime Organization, and STCW Convention
