Medical First Aid (MFA) is a mandatory course conducted in
accordance with the requirements of the Directorate General of Shipping,
aligned with International Maritime Organization standards and the STCW
Convention.
The course is designed to provide seafarers with advanced knowledge and
practical skills to provide immediate medical care onboard ships in the absence
of professional medical personnel. It covers assessment of casualties,
treatment of injuries and illnesses, and management of medical emergencies.
Training includes theoretical instruction and practical exercises,
focusing on CPR, use of oxygen resuscitators, control of bleeding, treatment of
burns, fractures, shock, and other medical conditions.
Special emphasis is placed on patient care, use of ship’s medical stores, communication with shore-based medical services, and maintaining medical records.
