Security Training for Seafarers with Designated Security Duties

Security Training for Seafarers with Designated Security Duties (STSDSD) is a mandatory course conducted in accordance with the requirements of the Directorate General of Shipping, aligned with International Maritime Organization standards and the STCW Convention, including the ISPS Code.

The course provides essential knowledge and skills required to perform designated security duties onboard ships, including understanding of ship security plans, access control, monitoring restricted areas, and use of security equipment. It combines theoretical instruction with practical training, enabling candidates to identify threats, recognize suspicious activities, and respond effectively to security situations.

Special emphasis is placed on security awareness, communication, crowd management, and emergency response procedures in line with international maritime security requirements.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Minimum age: 18 years
  • Valid passport
  • Must hold Basic Safety Training (BST) certificate
  • Must be medically fit as per DGS-approved doctor 

Competency Outcome – STSDSD Course:

  1. Perform designated security duties in accordance with the Ship Security Plan (SSP).
  2. Maintain effective access control and monitor restricted areas onboard.
  3. Identify and respond to security threats, risks, and suspicious activities.
  4. Operate and handle security equipment and systems used onboard ships.
  5. Follow proper security procedures and emergency response actions during incidents.
  6. Communicate effectively on security-related matters with crew and authorities.
  7. Contribute to maintaining a high level of security awareness and vigilance onboard.
  8. Support implementation of ISPS Code requirements and ship security measures.
  9. Ensure compliance with Directorate General of Shipping, International Maritime Organization, and STCW Convention regulations.
