Ship Security Officer

Ship Security Officer (SSO) Course is conducted in accordance with the requirements of the Directorate General of Shipping, aligned with International Maritime Organization standards and the STCW Convention, including provisions of the ISPS Code.

The course is designed to prepare officers to take responsibility as Ship Security Officer onboard ships, ensuring implementation and maintenance of ship security measures. It provides comprehensive knowledge of ship security plans (SSP), risk assessment, security levels, and threat identification.

Training includes theoretical instruction and practical exercises, focusing on access control, monitoring of restricted areas, security equipment handling, and coordination with Company Security Officer (CSO) and Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO).

Special emphasis is placed on conducting security drills, audits, inspections, and responding to security incidents, along with maintaining proper documentation and records as per ISPS Code requirements.


Eligibility Criteria (As per DGS Guidelines):

  • Valid passport
  • Must have Minimum 12 months Sea Service
  • Must hold STSDSD  certificate
  • Must be medically fit as per Directorate General of Shipping approved doctor

 

Competency Outcome – Ship Security Officer (SSO) Course: 


  • Implement and maintain the Ship Security Plan (SSP) in accordance with ISPS Code requirements.
  • Conduct security inspections, audits, and risk assessments onboard.
  • Monitor and control access to the ship and manage restricted areas effectively.
  • Identify and respond to security threats, breaches, and suspicious activities.
  • Coordinate with Company Security Officer (CSO) and Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO).
  • Ensure proper operation and maintenance of security equipment and systems onboard.
  • Organize and conduct security drills and training for crew members.
  • Maintain security records, documentation, and reports as required.
  • Promote continuous security awareness and vigilance among crew.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations of Directorate General of Shipping, International Maritime Organization, and STCW Convention.
