Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boat

Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats (PSCRB) is a mandatory course conducted in accordance with the requirements of the Directorate General of Shipping, aligned with International Maritime Organization standards and the STCW Convention.

 

The course is designed to provide seafarers with the knowledge and practical skills required to launch, operate, and take charge of survival craft and rescue boats in emergency situations. It covers lifeboats, liferafts, rescue boats, and their equipment, along with procedures for abandoning ship and survival at sea.

 

Training includes theoretical instruction and extensive practical drills, focusing on launching and recovery of survival craft, handling of boats in rough weather, and use of emergency equipment.

Special emphasis is placed on leadership, command, and control of survival craft, including organization of survivors, rationing, distress signaling, and rescue operations.


Eligibility Criteria (As per DGS Guidelines):

  • Valid passport
  • Must have Minimum 12 months Sea Service
  • Must hold Basic Safety Training (BST) /Ref PST certificate
  • Must be medically fit as per Directorate General of Shipping approved doctor

 

Competency Outcome – PSCRB Course:

 

  1. Take charge of and operate survival craft and rescue boats during emergencies.
  2. Demonstrate ability to launch and recover lifeboats and rescue boats safely.
  3. Manage and control survival craft in various sea conditions, including rough weather.
  4. Organize and lead survivors after abandoning ship, ensuring safety and discipline.
  5. Use life-saving appliances and survival equipment effectively.
  6. Apply procedures for distress signaling, communication, and rescue operations.
  7. Maintain lifeboat engines, equipment, and readiness for emergency use.
  8. Ensure proper rationing, care of injured persons, and survival techniques at sea.
  9. Comply with standards of Directorate General of Shipping, International Maritime Organization, and STCW Convention.
