Refresher in Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (R-FPFF) is a mandatory course conducted in accordance with the requirements of the Directorate General of Shipping, aligned with International Maritime Organization standards and the STCW Convention.

 

The course is designed to refresh and update the basic firefighting knowledge and practical skills of seafarers as required for STCW revalidation.

Training includes theoretical revision and practical drills, covering fire prevention, types and causes of fire, use of portable and fixed firefighting equipment, and emergency response procedures.

 

Special emphasis is placed on hands-on training, including use of fire extinguishers, hoses, hydrants, breathing apparatus, and fireman’s outfit, along with team coordination during firefighting operations.

 

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must hold a valid BST / Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting (FPFF) certificate.
  • Valid passport.
  • Must be medically fit as per Directorate General of Shipping approved doctor. 

Competency Outcome – Refresher in Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting (R-FPFF) :

  • Demonstrate continued ability to prevent, control, and extinguish fires onboard ships.
  • Use portable fire extinguishers, fire hoses, hydrants, and fixed firefighting systems effectively.
  • Apply updated firefighting techniques for different classes of fire.
  • Wear and operate fireman’s outfit and breathing apparatus (SCBA) safely.
  • Respond efficiently to fire emergencies and alarm situations.
  • Perform boundary cooling, fire containment, and smoke control.
  • Work effectively as part of a fire team, ensuring proper communication and coordination.
  • Follow shipboard emergency procedures and muster list duties.
  • Maintain awareness of fire hazards and fire prevention measures onboard.
  • Ensure compliance with standards of Directorate General of Shipping and STCW Convention.
