Basic Safety Training With STSDSD

Basic Safety Training (BST) with STSDSD is a mandatory course conducted in accordance with the requirements of the Directorate General of Shipping, aligned with International Maritime Organization standards and the STCW Convention.

The course provides essential knowledge and practical skills in Personal Survival Techniques, Fire Prevention and Firefighting, Elementary first Aid, and Personal Safety & Social Responsibilities, along with security training for seafarers with designated security duties (STSDSD).

Training includes a combination of theoretical instruction and mandatory practical drills, preparing candidates to effectively handle emergencies such as fire, abandonment of ship, medical situations, and security threats.

Special emphasis is laid on hands-on training, use of life-saving appliances, firefighting equipment, and adherence to shipboard safety and security procedures as per DGS-approved training standards.

Competency of Basic Safety Training (BST) with STSDSD Course

  • Demonstrate ability to survive at sea in the event of ship abandonment, including use of life-saving appliances (PST).
  • Perform fire prevention and firefighting operations, including use of extinguishers and breathing apparatus (FPFF).
  • Provide elementary first aid in case of injury, illness, or medical emergencies onboard (EFA).
  • Follow safe working practices and maintain effective interpersonal relationships onboard (PSSR).
  • Comply with emergency procedures, including muster, evacuation, and contingency actions.
  • Demonstrate awareness of shipboard hazards, pollution prevention, and safety regulations.
  • Perform assigned security duties in accordance with ship security plan requirements (STSDSD).
  • Identify and respond to security threats, including access control and suspicious activities.
  • Contribute to maintaining safe and secure shipboard environment as per Directorate General of Shipping, International Maritime Organization, and STCW Convention standards.
