The 2nd Mate (FG) course is designed to prepare deck officers for the Certificate of Competency as Second Mate (Foreign Going) as per Directorate General of Shipping guidelines.
It covers key subjects such as navigation, chart work, meteorology, cargo handling, and collision regulations (COLREGs).
The course includes practical training on bridge simulators, ECDIS, radar, and navigational instruments.
Emphasis is placed on safe watchkeeping practices, voyage planning, and maritime laws.
It equips candidates with the knowledge and skills required to serve as a competent navigating officer on board ships.-1
It covers Meteorology, Oceanography, and understanding of weather systems affecting navigation.
Students are trained in COLREGs, Bridge Watchkeeping, and Ship Stability & Cargo Handling.
Practical training includes ECDIS, RADAR/ARPA, Bridge Simulator, and navigational instruments.
The course is structured as per Directorate General of Shipping and STCW requirements for competency-based training.1
